PAS will reject any new political realignment by Umno as it is still with Perikatan Nasional (PN), said the Islamist party’s president, Abdul Hadi Awang.Touching on the leaked audio clip of a conversation purportedly between Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Hadi said PAS will stay put as there is still Muafakat Nasional.Muafakat Nasional is a political pact between Umno and PAS which was signed in 2019.“We are still with Muafakat Nasional, which has Umno and Bersatu, and involves all Malay parties. We will also continue to cooperate with PN,” Hadi said in a press conference in Terengganu today. In the leaked audio clip, two people who sounded like Zahid and Anwar, were heard discussing a scheme for Umno and PKR to team up ahead of the 15th general election.Hadi, who is also the Marang MP, however, admitted he is unsure whether the audio recording is genuine.
He said PAS is in discussion with Bersatu on seat allocations for the next general election.“We have our leaders to handle it. I will leave it to them,” he added. As for seat allocation talks with Umno, Hadi said PAS will leave it until Umno’s internal leadership issues are resolved.“We will discuss seat allocations with Bersatu first,” he said.He added that PAS will still call for the unity of all Muslim parties and the other communities.“This Islamic unity with Muafakat National is not just about Umno and PAS but includes Bersatu,” he said. – April 9, 2021.
