PENANG health authorities have disposed of 1,620 kg of celery worth RM12,960, which was imported from China as organonitrogen pesticide residue found on the vegetables exceeded permissible levels, state health director Ma’arof Sudin said.
“The Health Ministry, through its Food Safety and Quality Division, will continue to ensure that the agricultural produce imported into the country is in compliance with the Food Act 1983 and Food Regulations 1985 to protect consumers from issues related to food safety,” he said in a statement.
