,DAP leaders will not cow down to intimidation tactics nor be lured by enticement into supporting the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government, said party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.Addressing delegates at the Perak DAP Convention in Ipoh this morning, the Bagan MP was touching on the recent cross-over of several opposition lawmakers into supporting Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin when he said that "it was not easy for DAP parliamentarians too"."Lately there have been many news reports about PKR MPs who jumped (into supporting PN). I have read the statement by PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail yesterday that their Kuala Langat MP was pressured into crossing over... because he could not bear the pressure and threats from MACC."Even PKR MP R Sivarasa stated that Xavier (Jayakumar) was pressured by a selective MACC investigation," he said in his speech. While no DAP MPs have defected, the party was still hit by defections among state assemblypersons."I know it has not been easy for 42 DAP MPs who were elected in 2018, to still stick with DAP until today. It has not been easy to face such tactics, doesn't matter in what form. "However, as we are celebrating 55 years since the formation of DAP, I want to state here that we, all DAP representatives and grassroots members, will stay true to our idealism and principles. "We will not sell the country's dignity for money nor be intimidated," Lim added. DAP secretary-general Lim Guan EngLim, however, did not elaborate on those challenges allegedly endured by DAP MPs since the 14th general election.Yesterday, Xavier announced his resignation from all posts in PKR, and gave his support to the Muhyiddin government as an independent MP.The resignation came just weeks after several politicians close to Xavier became subjects of MACC probes. PKR lawmaker Sivarasa Rasiah later issued a statement claiming that Xavier would not have resigned if not for such a "selective investigation". Lim told the delegates that it is important for lawmakers to stand strong in the face of intimidation."This is so MPs can continue to carry out our duties to defend the rakyat and represent their voice."MPs are chosen to be traded like cows. We should not easily back down when threatened. We must be brave to face any kind of challenges and defend our voters. This is the duty of a people representative," he said. The former finance minister also chided PN government ministers Azmin Ali and Annuar Musa who had hinted that more opposition MPs are going to jump over to support the governing coalition.Branding it as "dirty and disgusting politics", Lim said this was the reason why the rakyat should stop PN from hijacking democracy and repeat Pakatan Harapan's victory in the 2018 general election."This is not the dirty politics that we want. What we want is politics that upholds the economy, society, fair rights and rule of law, to ensure we can have a better life in the future."Only then can we feel that Malaysia is for all and not just for those who are up there who can buy over whoever they want.rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"This is why we have to unite to stop PN from hijacking our democracy," he added.
